MALAHIDE TENNIS CLUB MASTERPLAN
Malahide Tennis Club is beautifully situated right in the centre of Malahide village. It is surrounded by magnificent trees which add significantly to the charm of Malahide village and from the club grounds there are views over the estuary, marina and Donabate beach.
The club received funding for the resurfacing of some of the tennis courts. While designing the layout for the new courts we also took the opportunity to work with the club to make an overall landscaping masterplan for the grounds.
The focus of the masterplan was to make places for people to watch tennis from and to look at when they are playing tennis. The idea was to make a consistent and coordinated kit of parts that could be used to make it easier and safer to circulate around the courts, that would clearly identify the entrances to the club and that would make boundaries that would provide shelter from the elements but also allow the general public to watch the tennis as they pass by.
The pallet of materials is very simple: stone paving, steel for structural elements and timber for fencing and seating. The trees were selected to reinforce the existing trees on the site and to provide long term high level shelter from the wind. A selection of other plants were selected to provide a range of colour throughout the year and to generate a clear planting strategy that supported the different places that are around the club grounds.
