Extension and refurb of large Family Home

Our client bought a large house which had been extended twice in the past. While there was a lot of space, it didn’t flow together very well and some of the rooms overshadowed other parts of the house. The design challenge was to build as little space as possible but to use this new intervention to connect the house in a more useful way, to bring more light into the depth of the house and to make the house more comfortable and more efficient.

We chose to demolish an existing sun room to the rear and replace it with an new open plan family space that connected the garden with the rest of the house. The result creates generosity, and easy connections with the rest of the house.

We insulated the external fabric, installed underfloor heating on the ground floor and a new ventilation system, to provide a consistently comfortable living environment.
