St. Sylvester’s Villas
House Extension in Malahide
This small 3 bed 1950’s house was transformed into a modern family home by adding an open plan living area to the rear and locating the bedrooms in the existing house at the front and converting the attic for storage.
The living rooms face west and catch the afternoon sum. They open out to a terrace which acts as an additional outside room which is great in the summer. The section of the room also allows the living room to be passively cooled so that it doesn’t over heat. The spaces are flexible and adaptable and can be divided by sliding screens.
With high levels of insulation and air tightness the house achieves a BER of A3. There is a underflooring heating system in the living areas which keeps the room at a constant comfortable temperature and the bedrooms are heated when required with radiators.
